Battling through a field of over 3200 players, BoostedJ found himself heads-up against a fellow cash game pro 'traheho'. Both players had decided to a chop, leaving $10,000 on the table for the eventual winner, and in the end they each took with them over $230,000.
BoostedJ also final tabled another FTOPS tournament the same week, making him the winner of the FTOPS leaderboard.
Justin Smith was born in Hartford, Connecticut on January 8, 1988. Although he lived in New York for two years, he did most of his growing up in the Kissimmee/Poinciana, Florida area after moving there when he was two years old. During his senior year of high school, he was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle crash that left him handicapped in a wheel chair for the remaining four months of his senior year. As a "bagger/clerk" at a grocery store, he was forced to quit his job and find a way to make money elsewhere. After talking to a long-time friend on the Internet, it was decided he would learn micro-limit online poker to start making a few bucks here and there.
Besides becoming one of the most feared high stakes short-handed cash game players on the Internet, Boosted J has made himself seen in the tournament world. In February 2007, he chopped 1'st place in the Full Tilt Poker FTOPS III Main Event for $232,000. Just a few days before that, he final tabled FTOPS III Event #6 $216 Omaha Hi/Lo for a 5'th place finish. With these two strong finishes combined, he was awarded the FTOPS III Player of the Year Award for most points collected throughout the series.
What was once the thought of making a small sum of money to help pay bills while attending college has transformed into something much, much more. From beginning with $50 in late February 2005, Boosted J has worked his way all the way up to winning and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars every day. He dropped out of the University of Central Florida after his freshman year of college to pursue his professional poker playing career fulltime, along with other business and investment endeavors.
You can contact BoostedJ by email or by sending him a message on his MySpace.
